"Nixon" by Tiger Lou & "Winter Rose" by Firefox AK

I’m streaming Tiger Lou from IMEEM at work right now and thought I’d post another off their 2005 The Loyal. “Nixon” is the last single off this album.

While I’m at it I want to share this one that a friend of mine suggested a while back. It’s Kellerman’s wife, Andrea Kellerman. She goes by Firefox AK. This is the first single, “Winter Rose”, off her album If I Were A Melody. The song features her husband. Her last full length from 2006 was titled Madame! Madame!. She had a debut EP in 2005 and another in 2006, Love To Run. All have been released on Razzia Records, a label out of Stockholm, Sweden. If you love electronic/dance music you should give this track a serious listening to. You can hear some others too on her myspace page.

"Something Good This Way Comes" by Jakob Dylan

Seeing Things is Jakob Dylan’s first solo studio album. The album was released on June 10, 2008 by Columbia Records. This clip is Dylan’s performance from his appearances on Late Night with David Letterman on June 11th. Listening to him I don’t think of Bob Dylan, for some reason Tom Petty comes to mind.

"Re-Arrange Us" by Mates of State

And so my obsession with bands on the Barsuk Record label continues. My obsession at your expense because I am about to make you dizzy with a crummy bootleg version of my favorite song off the album. Oddly it’s the title track, “Re-arrange Us”. Now, my favorite may change as my LP just arrived in the mail and I have only begun listening today. Yes, I did not take advantage of any internet leakage and I did not buy the CD the day it came out. I simply ordered it from the comfort of my office desk and waited patiently for its arrival. So, without further ado, I present to you– “Re-Arrange Us” from the fifth album by the husband-and-wife duet, Mates of State.

"45" by Shinedown

I’ve been listening to Shinedown for the past week. They have a new album coming out so I thought I’d brush up on some of thier old stuff. Turns out I really enjoy them. So here’s a song released back in July of 2003 on their debut album Leave A Whisper. You will all know this one for sure. This album also had a great cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man.” My favorite song is one off thier second album, Us and Them. It’s called “I Dare You” and it was released as a single in 2006. “Heores,” also released in 2006, is a pretty good tune with the opening few measures sounding exactly like Tool. All in all, I’m really looking forward to the release of thier third studio album, The Sound of Madness, coming out tomorrow (June 24,2008).

"Sore" by Annuals

Annuals are an indie-pop group signed to Ace Fu Records out of Brooklyn, NY. It’s the independent label that has Man Man and Devotchka as well. This song is off thier 2008 Wet Zoo EP. They have several other EP’s and a Demo but no full-lengths yet.

"As We Proceed" by Travis Morrison Hellfighters

I just ordered the Mates of State vinyl yesterday and I have been listening to a lot of the Barsuk bands lately due to Death Cab’s Narrow Stairs. Here’s one by Travis Morrison Hellfighters. The Hellfighters were added when Morrison decided he wanted to tour with his solo songs. That only lasted a year and in 2005 the group was touring with all new material. The album All Y’all (and that’s what we say here in Texas folks to refer to a group of Y’all’s) came out on August 21, 2008 on Barsuk Records.

Scarlett Johansson on Rhapsody

Ever since I saw the movie Love Song for Bobby Long, on the plane on my way home from a semester in Italy, Scarlett Johansson has been one of my favorite actresses. The movie was a 2004 independent film also starring John Travolta as Bobby Long. Bobby is a retired English professor and alcoholic. Scarlett plays Purslane, a teenager who returns home to her mother’s house after she has died to find Bobby and his Protégé living there. So, they are forced to live together and hate each other at first then blah blah blah and by the end they love each other. There you have it. This site not only gives music suggestions but movie reviews as well.

Anyway, Scarlett Johansson has an album out now, released May 16, 2008. The album is titled Anywhere I Lay My Head and is comprised of one original, two David Bowie contributions (one entitled “Fannin Street” which refers to a street here in Houston that I drive passed everyday on my work commute), and ten songs written by Tom Waits. I posted “Falling Down” in May but I came across this Rhapsody interview that I would like to share now.

And since I’m traveling down memory lane back to when I was in love with the album by Grayson Capps, who contributed several songs to the soundtrack for Love Song for Bobby Long, I thought I’d post a live performance of the title track as well.

"Underneath" by Alanis Morissette

Alanis Morissette has a new album out. It was released on Tuesday June 10, 2008 and is called Flavors of Entanglement. This song is growing on me. It’s the first single off the album.

"Pork and Beans" by Weezer

This is from Weezer’s new album, Weezer (The Red Album). It came out on Tuesday and I have been seeing this video “Pork and Beans” on VH1 JumpStart in the morning before work. This morning when I saw it I had to pull The Green Album and The Blue Album from the archives and bring them to work with me. So, I’m having a Weezer marathon today. Anyway, here’s the video for ya’!
