“Life Goes On” by Lily

Born in England, part-Irish, part-Welsh singer/songwriter, Lily, is pleased to present her new album, Life of Lily.

Her first single “Life Goes On” is an empowering, radio friendly battle-cry to let go of the little things that can get you down. Her innocent delivery and quirky spirit imbues the entire album — to be released on November 5, 2013.

As a songstress, Lily has the ability to put an indelible stamp of originality on her sound. She delivers folk-pop with a splash of Celtic spirit and, like another well known Brit with the same first name, her vocal contains a cockney accent over retro productions, sweetened with the layering of 50’s girl group harmonies.

“Tuolumne” by Incan Abraham

Any worthwhile journey will lead you to unexpected yet remarkably vibrant places. While Tuolumne, California (pron. To-All-O-Me) is a rich and historical locale in its own right, Incan Abraham‘s “TUOLUMNE” isn’t a point on a map, but rather a symbolic meeting place for many of the sounds and themes they dug up this year.

To envelop you in this fantastical land, they curated a fun new video, directed by Incan collaborator Logan Adermatt and our own Teddy Cafaro. Just like in life, the video captures the excitement of a new frontier, aglow in all its rewards… and dangers.

“Mexico” by Hana Kim

Soulful pop/rock artist Hana Kim will release her new album, Exodo, on September 13, 2013. She is currently offering up the first single off of the album, “Mexico.” The single provides somewhat of an exotic and dangerous feel. Infused with old school flavor, Kim’s soulful voice glides effortlessly over the beat provided by the bass and rhythm of the drums.

Kim is based in Los Angeles. She is an accomplished singer-songwriter with two successful EPs under her belt. Determined and passionate, Kim is an artist that has spent years perfecting her craft, injecting her influences from artists like Norah Jones, to The Black Keys into her unique style of pop. Her hard work and determination has paid off landing her opening slots at iconic Los Angeles venues.

“You’re Killing Me” by Cable Car

A fusion of pop, R&B and rock, Cable Car offers music oozing with passion. Most of their music describes the dark side of being in love. The band gracefully delivers a musical jambalaya of all of the most popular sounds of the last couple decades, while adding a current mainstream twist and their own original style.

Front man, Nathan Mott, grew up intrigued by the limitless singing styles of Ben Harper and Jeff Buckley and incorporated that free style into his own. Guitarist, Jack Turner, contributes his roots in jazz, R&B and blues to give a smooth, rhythmic vibe to the music. Ryan Murphy is at home behind his drum kit as he programs beats, bringing an electric flare to the group.

Influenced by a lot of the local LA talent and major artists, the band has been working diligently to promote their new EP, Ride. The album is equipped with a diverse subject matter inspired by love and relationships.

“Let’s Go All the Way” by The Wondergirls

The Wondergirls is a supergroup comprised of actor and songwriter Ashley Hamilton (vocals), Jay Gordon (Orgy), Chris Lloyd (VP/ A&R executive at Flip Records), and Doug Ardito (Guitarist of Puddle of Mudd). They’ve recently signed to Across The Universe Records, with an expectant EP out soon.

“Let’s Go All the Way” features Robbie Williams and is included on the Iron Man 3: Heroes Fall Official Soundtrack, which also features various artists such as Imagine Dragons and Passion Pit.

“The original 80’s (Sly Fox) version has its unique character and signature … (but) everyone is loving this version,” says Gordon. The band charged the track with an electric beat that is driven by classic rock drums, crunchy guitar licks and raging synths all supported by refined vocal chops.

“Contamination” by Adam Marsland

The Owl and the Full Moon is the latest from Los Angeles, California-based singer-songwriter and producer, Adam Marsland. It offers ten emotionally revealing pop and soul tunes, the offspring of Marsland’s fertile but fatigued creative mind. The album has begun to reveal itslef as the best and most focused work of Marsland’s career.

Marsland was hiking in Santa Monica on a dark, warm, beautiful night. The moom was huge and an owl flew over his head and perched on a nearby tree. He felt peace and inspiration in that moment and he went home and wrote the music to The Owl and the Full Moon.

“Life isn’t about the crap. That’s the background noise. It’s the beauty in small gestures, the warmth of a friend, the smile of a stranger, the quality of the journey, the great moments… that’s what life’s about,” says Marsland of his recent journey.

“Old Highway 9” by King Washington

Rock band, King Washington, is a staple on the LA music scene dating back to their debut in 2009. Their wide creativity and talent translates just as well to the stage, apparent in their current residency at Silverlake Lounge, which brings in fans from across the city.

“Don’t Expect My Love” is the first single after returning from a hiatus from performing and recording. In addition to the single, the release includes a b-side of “Old Highway 9.” I, myself, am partial to this track. It is an emotional ballad departure from what we usually hear from King Washington. It offers a steady rock ballad, heightened by harmonic background vocals, while each of the verses lay subdued with subtle instrumentation.

“The Weather in California is Nice” by Andrew Weathers

Andrew Weathers is an accomplished experimental touring musician who just got his master’s degree in electronic music from Mills College. His latest project, They Turned the Heat On, is featured as one of Silber Media’s “five songs in five minute EPs” which are free to stream or $1 to download.

The recordings on this EP blend Weathers’ goals of both creative direction to his banjo playing, heading towards technical expertise associated with academia, and representing the inspiration and improvisation that is essential to art. The pieces were all recorded sitting on his bed in California waiting for the heat in his apartment to be turned on in hopes of warming his fingers.

“Main Street Parade” and “We Are Giants” by A Fine Surprise

On stage for the first time at Hollywood’s Hotel Café, something magical happened between solo performers Louise Goffin and Billy Harvey as they traded songs during the show. The immediate and unexpected chemistry prompted them to form the duo A Fine Surprise.

They recently released two singles “Main Street Parade” and “We Are Giants.” The songs are melodic and soothing; a perfect mix of bright acoustic guitars and soaring voices.

Louise Lynn Goffin is a songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and a recording artist. Her musical talent provides the right color of instrumentation while her lyrics and top-line vocal phrasing often brings an emotional vibrancy to the music she helps create.

Over the years, Billy Harvey has been playing his own brand of post-modern pop, working not only as a songwriter but also as a producer. He has also been quietly directing, animating, and editing the accompanying music videos to his records, culminating in his 2008 documentary, Everywhere Now. The film premiered at the SXSW film fest to rave reviews.
