Sara Van Buskirk: White Linen Nights

In collaboration with the Fresh Arts Coalition, Fitzgerald’s hosted an after party following the White Linen Nights celebration in The Heights on Saturday, August 6. Singer-songwriter, Sara Van Buskirk was one of the performers. She and her cellist, Val Young, often perform solo. On Saturday, however, they brought the band. They performed an excellent cover of “Piece of My Heart” as well as several songs from Buskirk’s album, The Place Where You Are. Please have a listen to “I Wish I Was His Wife” below.

The show included a performance by Benjamin Wesley and DJ Sets from Ceeplus Bad Knives as well. Both are pictured below with Sara Van Buskirk.

“Art Vandelay” by Ducktails (aka Matthew Mondanile)

Prior to playing guitar for the band Real Estate, Matthew Mondanile was Ducktails. He revives the moniker for his latest effort available now on Woodsist Records. It is Ducktails’ third album, Ducktails III: Arcade Dynamics. Have a listen to “Art Vandelay” below and stream “Hamilton Road” from Ducktails’ bandcamp page.

If Church Mice reach thier $ 2,000 pledge goal within 30 days, they will begin to mix their debut album Feel The Same. After mixing is complete, the tracks will be sent to Memphis to be mastered by a reputatable industry engineer. Any remaining funds will go towards the production of physical CD’s and albums as well as new media costs.

“Contagious” by Marc Robillard

Singer-songwriter Marc Robillard recently released his sophomore album Left London. In this follow-up to his 2005 debut EP Paper Airplanes, Robillard reflects on his time spent living in England.

“Maracas” is the newest single from indie-pop-duo Mates of State. Their album Mountaintops arrives September 13th on Barsuk Records.

“Summer of ’89” by Butch Walker and the Black Widows

The new single “Summer of ’89” from Butch Walker‘s forthcoming album The Spade is available for download on Dangerbird Records. The full-album release date is August 30th. While the song harps on the Dixie Chicks and Bryan Adams, Walker admits to loving both.

“Everything Anyhow” by Freddy Monday

Singer/Songwriter Freddy Monday, will celebrate his sophomore release Everything Anyhow, on Tuesday, July 26.

For this album, Monday enlisted the help of Grammy-award winning producer and engineer Steven Rinkoff (Celine Dion, Meat Loaf) and multi-platinum engineer Paul Umbach (Jive Records). In addition, Monday has had a steady stream of success with song placements in film and television—his songs have been heard on Lifetime’s “Side Order of Life,” CBS’ “Young And The Restless” and “Moonlight” and TNT’s “Dark Blue” and “Burn Notice.”

“Slide” and “Warm Warm Water” by Ben Keeler and the 500 Club

Hailing from Chicago, Ben Keeler and the 500 Club began in Premier Windy City venues. They also toured the Midwest with their album, Water Water. Keeler is currently working on a new album (to be announced this summer) in his new hometown of San Francisco, California.

Water Water incorporates an array of orchestral instruments, prominent piano segments, and a backing choir component. I find myself enjoying the piano-driven contributions with guitar and horn involvement. Please have a listen to “Slide” and “Warm Warm Water” below.
