"Where do you go?" by Joe Lean and the Jing Jang Jong

Way back in February I was enjoying a song and a fun music video by these guys entitled “Lucio Starts Fires.” Then I saw them live in Austin and they did not impress me. Not to mention the fact that they took FOREVER to set up their equipment and I was ready for something worth the wait. Needless to say, I put them on the back burner and now they are trying to lure me back with this one.

"Another John Doe" by thenewno2

You Are Here is the debut album by thenewno2. It was released on August 1, 2008. The entire album was written, produced and performed by band members Dhani Harrison (George Harrison’s son) and Oliver Hecks. This single, “Another John Doe,” was released March 31, 2008 on iTunes.

Dhani is featured in the fall issue of Fashion Rocks. It’s a ten page spread titled “Here comes the Sun,” which is, of course, a Beatles song off Abbey Road written by his father.

"The Corner" by Staind

Ok, I am in LOVE with Staind’s new album, The Illusion of Progress! I posted “Believe” on August 1st. Since then I’ve been listening to the whole thing on imeem. I’m really enjoying this ballad, “The Corner.” I LOVE Aaron Lewis’ voice. There’s no video for it yet but I came across a tribute made by a high school friend of Aaron Lewis, or probably just someone who feels important by association. Hey, I’d be guilty of it too. This ‘friend’ claims that the photographs in this tribute are of the actual corner he’s referring to in the song.

"Pieces" by The Bridges

The Bridges is made up of four siblings (Natalie, Stacey, Jeremy, and Isaaca Byrd) and one cousin. Brittany Painter is the cousin and lead singer. She and the sibling harmonies make for a nice poppy-folky-country-rock sound. Limits of the Sky is their debut release.

“Angels on the Moon” by Thriving Ivory

This post is for my sister. She finally knows what she’s talking about when it comes to new popular releases because she get’s up to work-out everyday at the crack of dawn and watches VH1 JumpStart. She likes this one. So Linds, this one’s for you.

By the way, this is from Thriving Ivory’s self-titled debut released June 24, 2008.

1983 In Music

It’s my birthday!! I’m 25 today! That’s a quarter of a century folks! So, I thought I would post a ‘1983 in Music’ entry. Madonna released her self-titled debut album on July 27th in 1983 when she was 25. This album included 5 singles: “Lucky Star,” “Borderline,” “Holiday,” “Burning Up,” and “Everybody.” You can wish Madonna herself a happy birthday as she turned 50 on Saturday. If you really love her go see her Sticky and Sweet World Tour. For those in Houston it’s November 16th at Minute Maid Park.

"Night Terror" by Laura Marling

If you know the indie band Noah and The Whale then you know 18 year old Laura Marling. She is a member of that band and since February has also had a solo debut album release entitled Alas I Cannot Swim. This song, “Night Terror” is off that album. It was previously released on her EP My Manic and I.

“Honey” by The Hush Sound

The concert last night was amazing. In case you missed yesterday’s post, I went to Warehouse Live and saw The Morning Light, Steel Train, The Cab, and the first time headliner The Hush Sound. I walked in to find Steel Train front-man, Jack Antonoff, at the merch table selling his own merchandise. I caught the end of “Honest” by The Morning Light. Great song. The Steel Train set included a nearly a capella bluesy number and closed with “I Feel Wierd.” I underestimated The Cab. They will be headlining in October back at Warehouse and I’m tempted to go back and see them again. The Hush Sound started their set with Greta Salpeter alone on stage singing and playing “Hurricane.” The rest joined her towards the end of the song. I didn’t hear “Medicine Man” which was a little disappointing.

"I Feel Wierd" by Steel Train

I will be seeing these New Jersey natives tonight along with The Cab and The Morning Light supporting The Hush Sound at Warehouse Live. This song is featured on the album Trampoline which came out in 2007 as their second full-length.
