"TV" by Headlights

An indie rock band from Illinois. Looking at their MySpace it seems that they like to release LPs, and EPs. Ok, there’s a CD releasing on ituens, Some Racing, Some Stopping. I’m not familiar with the group so I’ll have to check it out. From what I saw they were good, even though the much anticipated Liam Finn rushed them off the stage.

"Whose Authority" by Nada Surf

These guys closed out my venue of choice on Friday night of SXSW. The new album, Lucky, released February 5th is great. Why doesn’t anyone I talk to know about these guys? They’ve been around forever! Remember “Popular” from 1996?

"Insistor" by Tapes ‘n Tapes

From Minneapolis NM, these guys have been around since 2004 and released The Loon in 2005. Their second album, Walk It Off, should come out some time in April on XL Recordings. I just realized that this is the same label Vampire Weekend is signed to, for the time being. Am I slow?

"Rise Up With Fists" by Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins

I saw The Watson Twins at Buffalo Billiards in Austin. Too bad I couldn’t find a good video of just the twins. You see, Jenny Lewis from the group Rilo Kiley made a solo album between the groups More Adventures from 2004 and Under the Blacklight from 2007 (both great albums). Anyway, she featured The Watson Twins on that solo album, Jenny Lewis and the Watson Twins. This is an excellent song and I’m sure you can pick out the twins.

"Photogragh" by Eagle* Seagull

Here’s a little band from Nebraska. I saw them at Maggie Mae’s in Austin. Here’s a nice amateur video for ya’. They have an EP out called I Hate EP’s and their album, The Year of the How-To Book, is coming out sometime in 2008.

"Vegas" and "Love Song" by Sara Bareilles

Sara Bareilles closed Thursday night at The Parish. She went on at 1:20 am. She joked saying, “This is the latest show I’ve ever done. What did you expect, I was supposed to have drinks before I started.” I really wanted to post “Love Song” because you all know it, but I really like “Vegas” so that’s what you get.

Oh what the heck, i’ll give ya’ both!

"A Dream" by Priscilla Ahn

This is the angelic voice you hear backing Joshua Radin in several of his songs. If I had not been at the Hotel Cafe Tour stop at SXSW to hear it with my own ears I would never have guessed the profanity to come out of her sweet little mouth between songs. Her yukalaylee was ‘a small F*#@ing instrument’ and she was excited to announce that her album will soon be sold ‘in stores and S*@T!’ In addition to harmonizing with Joshua Radin, she was featured on Amos Lee’s song “Black River” from a while back. That’s a great song, you should check it out. Anyway, her EP is on itunes but her album drops June 10th.

"Everything’ll Be Alright (Will’s Lullaby)" by Joshua Radin

I saw Joshua Radin at The Parish in Austin. You may remember his song, “Winter,” on the TV series Scrubs. I hadn’t listened to his stuff in a while. I have his only full length album from 2006, We were here, but I hadn’t really heard much else until seeing him live. He played a few songs from his new itunes EP, Unclear Sky, which might be worth investing in.
