“Get Your Fill of Feelin Hungry” by Jay Brown

The new album, Beginner Mind, from singer-songwriter, Jay Brown, will be released on October 14. Brown says of the single, “Get Your Fill of Feeling Hungry,” “This song was inspired by thinking back on my years spent in Boone, NC. I lived simply and alone in little old cabins, happily, humbly, and hungrily getting from day to day.

For a man who has spent his whole life playing and recording music, Brown’s Beginner Mind, is poignantly centered in a state of openness. His sensual storytelling is imbued with the heart of American Roots music, delivered in a way that doesn’t feel old or dated.

In addition to playing with his one man band – which usually consists of himself, accompanied by guitar, harmonica, tap shoes and a tambourine – you can still find Brown playing with the band he formed back in 1999 with his best friends called Lazybirds. As he understood it, when Lazybirds formed, the members all shared something unique and hard to describe. They were all fascinated with old obscure music and with the life and times of those that made it.

“In The Shade” by Dog Society

The renown NYC pop-rock collective, Dog Society, showcase their prowess in their newest studio album, In The Shade. The band’s third full-length album is chock full of psych rock, Beatle-esque harmonies and huge, catchy hooks.

The band was formed in 1991 and their debut, Test Your Own Eyes, was released in 1993. The Washington Post praised the album for its “catchy melodies, Beatlesque harmonies, alternately droning and jangly guitars, and a nod and a wink to The Who and other fab Brits.”

After a 19-year hiatus, the society returns with In The Shade. Speaking of the hiatus, band member, Rich Guerzon said, “The break was just life taking us on different journeys. I knew we would cross paths again someday.”

“Midnight” by Ships Have Sailed

The finely-crafted pop tracks on Someday, the debut EP from LA-based band Ships Have Sailed, will be available on July 15.

The brainchild of singer-songwriter Will Carpenter, Ships Have Sailed was formed in early 2013 as an outlet for material that didn’t fit into Carpenter’s role as guitarist for hip-hop rockers 7Lions.

The resulting 6-song EP is a heady blend of current alt-rock, cathartic songwriting, and dreamy-pop. You may view the video for “Midnight” on YouTube. And, feel free to stream the track below, or visit the band’s Soundcloud profile.

“Tuesday Morning” by Tijuana Love

The house-fusion pioneers of Tijuana Love are proud to announce the world premiere of their video for the Latin funk single, “Tuesday Morning.”

Skilled in the art of fusing disco and electronica with Latin island funk. Their often campy style and unassuming lyrics make for a playful listen, softening the methodical sound of western EDM with the natural involvement of Spanish rhythms.” ~ What’s Hip¿

It is Tijuana Love’s insatiable desire to spread the language of music which has enabled their quick ascendancy through the Central American club circuit. Their retro ties to disco and involvement with DJ’s and House music make their sound all the more current. Furthermore, Tijuana Love has set their sights on bringing their music to an international audience in hopes for their message to be made clear — there are no borders in music.

“Cold” by Wetwood Smokes

Stepbrothers Josh Bowman & Steven Howard and childhood friend Chrystian Cano make up the trio Wetwood Smokes.

The instruments they bought into their initial gigging flurry of fashionable LA music circles were the same ones used in the recording of their debut album Earth Tones & Red. The album’s name was, in fact, derived from the color pallet provided by their setup: wood finished Gretsch drum kit, Red Korg SV-1 with reversed color keys, Fender jazz bass with a red strap and a variety of hand-made wood stained stage props.

Check out the premiere of Wetwood Smokes’ single, “Cold” on Popdose.

Their current modus operandi is to evolve and grow their unmistakable sound and image in hopes that it will be familiar to multiple generations, beyond the current musical trends they happen to coincide with.

“A Baby-Step of Faith” by Eron Falbo

Brazilian singer-songwriter and musician, Eron Falbo’s debut album, 73, was produced by revered producer Bob Johnston; best known for his seminal work with Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Johnny Cash and Simon and Garfunkel.

Falbo released the 60’s inspired single “Beat the Drums” through Universal Music Group and then moved to Pisces Records (a small imprint back in Brazil) to release 73. The album was recorded at Nashville’s Dark Horse Recordings in a two day span. The finessing of the mixes and final overdubs were completed at the infamous Konk Studios in London.

Falbo calls 73 his “snapshot of the collective creative sentiment of the 60’s that he feels culminated in 1973. It is above all a lyrical dose of Rock & Roll, themed around ethical self-improvement, submerged in the exploration of cosmic hidden truths and illustrated by a new voice with a charmingly idiosyncratic perspective.”

“Hold A Place” by Dinah Thorpe

Folk/Singer-Songwriter Dinah Thorpe has a knack for crafting smart, genre-melding pop.

Her new album, Lullabies and Wake-Up Calls, is also an exercise in beautiful contradiction. As songwriter, performer, and producer, Thorpe plays multiple stylistic roles on the album. The Toronto-based artist has been favorably compared to Laurie Anderson, Portishead, Natalie Merchant, Beth Orton, Grace Jones, Feist, and David Bowie among others. But Thorpe draws on a hugely diverse range of influences – from folk to rap, trip hop to blues, orchestral to techno – and distills them into a musical style that is unmistakably Dinah Thorpe.

“Everything I’m Not” by Josh Matthews

Urban folk artist, Josh Matthews, busked on the streets of Tennessee for about three years doing some substantial soul searching and carving out his decidedly original sound. The resulting debut album, A-Sides, is an intense journey through the thoughtful, inquisitive, hopeful and often brutally honest mind of a young man who takes his time on this earth very seriously.

By accentuating the imperfections of music and embracing them, A-Sides is an unadulterated slice of life from a spirited blue collar bard.

While performing at Exit/In in Nashville, Matthews was given the inevitable compliment “Hey Man, I’m not sure how to categorize you, but I love what your doing.”
