“GNDN” by Admiral Radley

GNDN stands for “goes nowhere, does nothing.” It refers to Star Trek’s USS Enterprise. We see it flying and doing all these amazing things but “with its cardboard parts” it really goes nowhere and does nothing.

Admiral Radley is a band formed by two members of the indie rock bands Grandaddy, Jason Lytle and Aaron Burtch and Earlimart, Aaron Espinoza and Ariana Murray. “GNDN” can be found on their one album entitled I Heart California. It was released July 13, 2010 on the label The Ship.

“If I Were a Carpenter” by Sweet Tea

In 2008 when the Heartless Bastards accepted an offer to record a live set for the Austin City Limits TV show, the episode paired them with one of their favorite bands and musical influences, Sonic Youth. A special guest also appeared—good friend Alex Maas of The Black Angels.

Maas and the main Bastard, Erika Wennerstrom, took the opportunity to recreate the classic June Carter and Johnny Cash duet on Tim Hardin’s “If I Were A Carpenter.”

Wennerstrom and Maas started a side project called Sweet Tea, which showcases their unique collaborative take on classic country. Fat Possum released “If I Were A Carpenter” and the Ray Price classic “Crazy Arms” digitally.

50 Years of Dr. Martens

Dr. Martens (aka. Doc Martens) have been in existence for 50 years this year. I still have my 13 year old doc’s. How old are yours?

In celebration of their 50th Anniversary, they asked 10 artists to record their version of a cult classic track which represents the spirit of the people who’ve worn DM’s over the past 50 years. They also asked 10 directors to make videos for each of the tracks.

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club chose to cover Ewan MacColl’s “Dirty Old Town,” better known as a 1985 cover by The Pogues.

You can watch all of the artist’s videos as well as download the tracks for free HERE.
